Testing All Students For Drugs

Officials of Marian Catholic High School, Chicago, are considering a proposal to test all students for drugs, starting in the next academic year. The school has already spent months obtaining feedback from interested parties, especially parents, and has found a two-thirds majority in favor of the proposal. The school is planning to use hair follicle tests, which will detect drug abuse in the past three months. The plan is to test all students near the start of the academic year than conduct random tests for the rest of the year. Students who fail drug tests will receive counseling and would be tested again at their own expense. While the results of drug tests will be confidential, two failed tests will result in expulsion from the school.
